Workshop Wednesday Winter 2011 #8: Mirror Mirror on the Wall...

I'm not into Mirrors cause they break all the time when I'm looking in them but its the Law. I pretend to be an OUTLaw but my bikes are so not road legal that every thing I can make the cops stopping from pulling me over I take for granted. I always keep the mirrors below the bars cause that's the only way I like it. After last shot I replaced the glass with a new one hahahaha

Ikea curtain rail end.

I like the shape of this IKEA curtain rail end and it is in our Hoodlum Society logo as well so I try to figure out where to put it on a bike. It broke 3 times in the proces to put it on the kickstand so now it is the end of the rear brakerod. Don't run into me cause it will cost you a tire hahaha.

Workshop Wednesday Winter 2011 #7: Piston tail light.

I had 3 pistons in the workshop for over 15 years and today it was time to make something out of one. Don't have a clue what piston it is but this size was exactly the same size as the bullet light I had on the '67 Ironhead so after some grinding the lens and bracket fitted perfectly, made some small treads in the piston to hold the lens and it was going very smooth...Then I had problems with the big bulb in the small inside but after a lot of grinding and testing I finally made it from an old Ford Econoline brakelight holder. Another tread to hold the tail light on a braked and fixed it to the licence plate holder. Tail and Brakelight are working and I even have a little light on the licence plate, specially for you mr. Policeman.

Workshop Wednesday Winter 2011 #6: Exhaust for the '67 Ironhead

Almost ready with the Biltwell Exhaust kit, I'm still waiting for some Ironhead flanges so the mufflers are only for display at the moment. Upswept mufflers, high front pipe, 2nd cylinder on lowest muffler, can't wait to hear the sound. Pipe will be hot around the leg and carburator but I will figure something out: I"M NOT USING EXHAUST TAPE, I'm proud on my bad welds and have nothing to hide like most "tapers". It was not an easy job but in the end it was faster than I expected. Next up: Gastank, Brakelight, Electrics.

XL1100 Test ride December 11th 2011: Cold but entertaining.

The sun was out for 10 minutes today so I took the bike out for some pictures for the TWIN AIR website. TWIN AIR made a nice "gas spiller" ring like they used in the early Motocross days and a new "GP" cover for my filter, this prototype fits perfect and now its time for some testwork in the cold. It was almost freezing and the bike didn't start that well but after adjusting the idle of the Mikuni it was a blast to ride the bike with the new Airfilter and new piggy bag shocks. It's super fast now and takes some time to get used to it but the weather is ready for long test rides. Thanks again to the Twin Air guys and Mechanic Kees for an awesome job.

Goodbye my friend, Welcome new friend!

While drilling a 13mm hole in the fork bushings my old Skill drilling machine caught on fire! Yes first smoke and then real FLAMES coming out of the machine, cutting of all the 220v power in the workshop, hahahaha. I never had flames coming out of an electric tool before but this was awesome, goodbye mr SKILL, thanks for all the good stuff we build together. Mr DeWalt: welcome to the family of destruction.

"Live to Ride, Ride to live" air cleaner.

This Harley-Davidson "Live to Ride, Ride to Live" aircleaner was on my XL1100 for 25 years and now its getting a pearl blast treatment. Don't know if I want to use it, if you have 100 bucks its yours, included K&N Airfilter and baseplate.

Workshop Wednesday is Back! Winter 2011 #5: Piggy Bag Shocks on XL1100

Have been searching for new Shocks for the XL1100 for ages. If money wasn't the problem I would have bought the tricked out WP piggy bag shocks or Öhllins but they are Euro 1200,00 and not in my budget. The new Progressive Piggy bag shocks are nice too but a Grand is way to much. Ebay brought a solution with these nice Piggy Bag shocks for under 200 Euro incl shipping & tax. I like them very much and after a small adjustment they are a perfect fit. No test rides cause the weather sucks, have to wait a couple of months....
